ANN ARBOR, MI, January 14—Bywater Books announces it will begin actively publishing titles through its Amble Press imprint in 2020. Led by Managing Editor and Lambda Literary Award-winning author Michael Nava, Amble Press will publish fiction and narrative nonfiction by queer writers, with a primary, though not exclusive, focus on queer writers of color.
“I commend Bywater Books for giving a platform to writers whose voices are too often ignored by a literary establishment that gives lip service to diversity but rarely practices what it preaches. I’m honored and thrilled to be part of this project.” Nava continues, “Amble Press will celebrate and amplify our community’s diverse voices, and the unique and compelling stories they have to tell. As the forces of reaction are empowered at the highest levels of society, the arrival of Amble Press could not be more timely and more necessary. Amble Press is committed to publishing books that are bold, entertaining, and of enduring value.”
The first title to be published under Amble Press will be As If Death Summoned (December 2020) by Alan Rose. Nava is working to curate a wide range of tiles for Amble, which will include the 8th book in his highly-acclaimed Henry Rios mystery series in the spring of 2021.
Salem West, Publisher of Bywater Books, says, “This is the right time to launch this important imprint, and Michael Nava is absolutely the perfect person to lead the way. Amble Press will continue Bywater Books’ strong tradition of publishing a vibrant range of thinkers and writers.”
Bywater Books, Inc. is dedicated to excellence in publishing. Launched in 2004 as a feminist and lesbian press, Bywater Books and its Amble Press imprint are committed to publishing the best of contemporary queer writing for all readers.
