Congratulations to Hilary Sloin! Her debut novel Art on Fire has been awarded the 2014 Stonewall Book Award–Barbara Gittings Literature Award from the American Library Association. Every year, the Stonewall Book Awards Committee of the ALA recognises a book of “exceptional merit relating to the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender experience.”
First presented in 1971, the award is named in honor of Barbara Gittings, who worked to bring positive lesbian and gay literature into libraries — and was one of the activists responsible for persuading the American Psychiatric Association to stop describing homosexuality as a mental illness.
Hilary will be given the award at the Stonewall Book Awards Brunch at the American Library Association Annual Conference on Monday, June 30, 2014 from 10:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in Las Vegas, Nevada.
