Stella Duffy has been in the news for a couple of reasons this week. A frequent blogger, she has just been honored as Published Author of the Year by The Ultimate Planet Awards, set up “to recognise, thank and promote the hard work from dedicated grass roots event organisers and community businesses who are committed to improving the lesbian, bi and queer scene.”
And one of her blogs this week also attracted a lot of attention. It has just been announced that lesbians and gay men in England and Wales will be able to marry from March 29, 2014. To mark the occasion, Stella Duffy wrote a blog “The law finally catches up with love” and reminded us of the many for whom this news comes too late:
“Do remember, straight couples in your 70s, as you celebrate your golden wedding anniversaries, all those gay couples in their 70s who have been together just as long, and deserve the same celebratory joy, who will never live long enough to celebrate their own golden wedding anniversary.”
