Val McDermid appeared on Open Book on BBC Radio 4. The program invited 10 authors to champion a book they believe has been unfairly neglected. Listeners were invited to listen to all 10 nominations and then choose the book they feel deserves to be remembered; the winning title will be dramatised on Radio 4 in 2010.

VAL MCDERMID ON HER CHOICE

Originally published in 1951 (under the pseudonym Claire Morgan) as The Price of Salt, this book is actually the work of Patricia Highsmith (1921-1995), best known for the Ripley novels. It’s the story of a romance between two women who meet in a department store. In this excerpt they meet for the first time.
